Last night, the first night of June 2018, I restarted my Friday Night Trivia series under a slightly new banner. My original title was Friday Night Trivial, but during last night’s love show, Ian the6thDoctor suggested the name you see in the blog title; I think I’ll go with that.
Just like I have a post compiling links to my sound collages, here I’ll collect episode links.
Update: As of Friday, 8 May, 2020, Friday Night Trivial is officially concluding. The show ended last year on an uncertain note, and I brought it back during the Great Quarantine of April 2020, but the show is again returning to the shadows of the archives. Thank you to everyone who made it to the live shows.

Here’s a collage I created back in early August of this year. This collage combines a lot of cassette tape distorted audio with vague echoes of songs and ambient audio.
Here’s what I can remember of the playlist:
“The Autumn Leaves” — ATB
“I’ll Be Back” — The Beatles
“Hey There Delilah” — Plain White T’s
Cassette tape distorted audio throughout
Ambient weather noise, rain, wind
“I’ve Got Some Falling to Do” — Lemon Demon
As always, please enjoy and thank you for listening.

Another sound collage created back in mid-July of 2022. I remember thinking, “where are the brakes on this thing?” as I was making this, as this collage goes for two hours; I just couldn’t find a good stopping point at the one-hour mark and just kept going.
Playlist:
“Never Say Goodbye” — Rave Channel
“Little Fluffy Clouds” — The Orb
“Turn Down Day” — The Cyrkle
“Right Back” — Yuri Kane
“Wildflower” — Skylark
Please enjoy and thank you for listening!

This was a sound collage I created back in mid-July, during a rather persistent thunderstorm one Sunday afternoon. I placed my microphone in my window, pointed outward, and just recorded. I then layered on distorted audio clips into the mix. This is rather different from practically any other sound collage I’ve made so far. I hope you enjoy it.
This episode combines:
Ambient thunderstorm recording
“Scenes From an Italian Restaurant” — Billy Joel
Clip from a Coast to Coast AM episode w/Art Bell
Some Joe Frank episode. Maybe Lost Souls?
…I’ll add more when I listen back.
As always, please enjoy and thank you for listening.

Sound collage created the morning of Saturday, June 25, 2022. Ambient sounds from the BBC Sound Effects library, with some samples from Quiet American field recordings. Episode subtitle is a reference to Vancouver’s KISS-FM changing format, firing one of their hosts, and that host protesting by playing Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name” on loop for hours and hours.
Please enjoy and thank you for listening.

I’ve been meaning to make a new sound collage for a while. The other night, I was watching StereotoneTim edit some Beach Boys tracks from their unreleased album “Smile”. She does her audio editing in Audacity, but watching that made me want to do some audio editing, so I opened Audition, started playing with some archived sound loops, and off I went.
Let’s get to the playlist:
Dave and Kirsty starting a local recording for one of our Cultdom Commentaries
“Mad World” — Gary Jules
“A Place for the Hermit” — Alan Watts
“The Southern Sea” — Garth Stevenson
Local hams on the weekly ARES net, recorded in 2016
“Opalin” — Aes Dana
“Oklahoma Town” — Josh Gabriel presents Winter Kills
Clip from Marble Hornets Entry 28 about hotel documentaries
“Kiss My Name” — Antony and the Johnsons
“Insomnia” — Joe Frank
“Blue Blue Sky” — Alan Parsons Project
“Out of the Blue” — Alan Parsons Project
“Her Space Holiday” — My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend
“Fast Car” — Tracy Chapman
“Like the Deserts Miss the Rain” — Everything But the Girl
“Press Rewind” — Alan Parsons Project
“Ignorance is Bliss” — Alan Parsons Project
Working titles for this episode include:
Going Nowhere (In a Fast Car)
Hermits in a Fast Car
A Storm is Coming (And Thunder Sends Me Running)
As always, please enjoy and thank you for listening.

I’ve had this one sitting in Audition for over a week. It started off as just me playing around with a prank call from a recent Snow Plow Show episode. I happened to be listening to Alan Parsons Project’s “Mr. Time” at the same time. You see, I have an automated weekly tweet that posts a link to that song on YouTube and I found myself listening to that song again. Anyway, I edited something together, posted it to Mastodon, then linked that tweet on the Twitter machine. The multitrack session still sat open in Audition, but I forgot about it.
Around a week later, I remember I have that just sitting there, and I had edited together about 14 minutes of stuff, so I went ahead and started adding to it, making a full sound collage. I recorded myself reading something I had typed up in Notepad++ a while ago, and added that to the mix.
Let’s get to the playlist:
Clip from Snow Plow Show episode 748: Beautiful Green Lawns
A Black Sabbath song I always forget the name of
“Mr. Time” — Alan Parsons Project
“Autobahn” — Kraftwerk
“Are my methods unsound?” – Apocalypse Now
“A State of Nothing” — Alan Watts lecture
“Knocked Down” — The War on Drugs
“Beginnings” — Alan Parsons Project
“Atmosphere” — Joy Division
“WSNO” — Miranda July
Me talking about…
“Rubycon Part One” — Tangerine Dream
“The Intrusion” — Mark Z. Danielewski
“Wheel of Fortune” — Ace of Base
“U.F.Orb” — The Orb
“Trouble” — Coldplay
“Little Fluffy Clouds” — The Orb
“The Smallest Weird Number” — Boards of Canada
“A Is to B As B Is to C” — Boards of Canada
Clips from Hal Hartley’s “Surviving Desire”
“The Truth Is…” The Orb
“A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From the Centre of the Ultraworld (Live Mix)” — The Orb
“I Know You’re Out There Somewhere” — The Moody Blues
“Music For A Found Harmonium” — Penguin Cafe Orchestra
“Music For a Found Harmonium (Alt Take)” — Penguin Cafe Orchestra
“5 and a Half Minute Hallway” — Mark Z. Danielewski
“Bathroom Tomb” — Rainer
“Mr. Blue” — Yazoo
“Exit” — Tangerine Dream
“Just Remember I Love You” — Firefall
“Ash Tree Lane” — Mark Z. Danielewski
“Truant’s Nightmare” — Mark Z. Danielewski
“Whalestoe Letter 1” — Mark Z. Danielewski
“Wild” — Poe

Wow, that’s a lot of stuff in this collage. Anyway, please enjoy and thank you for listening!
