Friday Night Trivia Returns This Friday Night

After too long of a hiatus, Radio Free Caemlyn will return to the airwaves with an all-new night of trivia. On 10 September, at 9.30pm EST, Friday Night Trivia XXIV goes live, and begins a modified format.

The winner each week can, if they want, host the following week’s trivia. So now there’s a new incentive to win.

Join in this Friday night as Ian “The 6th Doctor” from Cultdom Collective podcast steps up as host of Friday Night Trivia. What topics will he come up with? Tune in to find out.

Hope to see you there. TalkShoe ID 72402.

Quick Update on Podcasts

I’m back at University now, and I’ve not yet had a chance to drop by the IT Dept. to resolve an issue crucial to me continuing the podcasts live on TalkShoe. Here’s the thing: I can’t connect to TalkShoe via a SIP client, which is necessary for me to host shows on TalkShoe. There is a port forwarding issue, wherein the necessary port is blocked by the Uni’s network.

Add to that the fact that I don’t yet know where on campus the IT Dept. has been moved to. This Uni is notorious for moving places like that around campus as they tear down old buildings and construct new ones.

I should have the issue resolved by the end of this week, though. Friday Night Trivia may not take place this Friday, but definitely next week.

This Weekend on RaT Network

This weekend’s shows start Friday night as always with Friday Night Trivia over on Radio Free Caemlyn at 9:30 EST. There’s a twist to the formula this week. On Friday Night Trivia XXIII – To the Other Side, Darth Skeptical takes the helm with questions, and I’ll be on the side of everyone else called in. Be sure to join in for that, as I’m sure Darth’s got a fun night of trivia planned.

Saturday night on The RaT Project, starting at 8PM EST, the topic is favorite video game characters. So be sure to call in and mention your favorite video game characters. I look forward to that discussion.

Now an advance notice on next weekend. There will be no Friday Night Trivia on August 20th, as that is when I’ll be moving into my room in a residential hall at University. I doubt I’ll have my computer set up in time for trivia, so I’ve went ahead and canceled plans for FNT just in case stuff comes up that night. That weekend’s RaT Project should still go on as planned, but don’t be surprised if that gets canceled as well.

That’s that. Hope to see you at Friday Night Trivia and RaT Project this weekend!

Kring Confirms Heroes’ Miniseries Talks

Digital Spy reports that Heroes‘ creator Tim Kring is in talks with NBC to make a final miniseries to conclude his show.

The miniseries will take place a year after the conclusion of Volume Five: Redemption (season four), and will see Claire (Hayden Panettiere) become a spokesperson for people with abilities.

Heroes was confirmed canceled last month at NBC’s up-fronts for their fall 2010 schedule. At around that time, there were rumors of other ways NBC might carry on Heroes instead of canceling it. One proposed finale for the show was a thirteen episode miniseries. Another was a two-hour movie. Looks like one of these might get the go-ahead, regardless of the show being officially canceled.

Heroes cancellation shouldn’t have come as a surprise to any of its fans, and definitely wasn’t a surprise to the show’s critics. The show never recovered the audience numbers it had with the first half of its first season. The Writer’s Guild of America strike, partway into the show’s second season, didn’t help either. Kring cut the second season short with an abrupt conclusion. The third season, presented as two volumes that were quite different from each other, struggled to recapture fans, but didn’t quite succeed. The fourth season, presented as one entire Volume, came the closest to recapturing the feel of the first season.

Running concurrent with the show, NBC ran a series of graphic novel chapters on their website. The original premise of the graphic novel chapters was to expand on the show. These went on to present original characters not seen in the show (though some characters became important on the show), and their own original story arcs. There is now discussion among fans about whether or not the graphic novels should continue in their own right.

However this plays out, Heroes had a good run. I’m of the opinion that the fourth and final season was just about up to the standard set by the first season. I’m also of the opinion that Heroes ended on a good note, and there should be no further mini-series.

We’ll see how this plays out.

The RaT Project Notes

Apologies for canceling last night’s live episode. I didn’t really have any material prepared, and I had soem things come up IRL (in real life) at the last minute, so I wasn’t able to be at the computer during that hour.

I decided giving the show the weekend off wouldn’t be too bad.

I’ve recorded and uploaded a new studio episode of The RaT Project. In this rather short episode, I give my thoughts on a speculative extension of a plot point from the Doctor Who episode “Cold Blood”. Needless to say it’s spoilery, so if you’ve not seen the episode yet, keep it on hand until after you’ve seen the episode.

Happy Towel Day, Everyone! Also, Geek Pride Day!

Yes, two great observances in the same day! First of all, it’s Towel Day, in remembrance of Douglas Adams and his Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy books. Be sure to have a towel with you throughout the day, because you should always know where your towel is.

Also, it’s Geek Pride Day. Keep the following in mind for today:

Then again, isn’t every day Geek Pride Day? 😉
